FROM IERS TO SORAPS… Continuity and synergies between past and future projects

An international training course aimed at promoting the intercultural dialogue through the teaching of religion in high schools was held in Venice, from 13 to 17 March 2017.

In the setup of said course, the experience gathered during the implementation of the IERS – Intercultural Education Through Religious Studies https://iers.unive.it/  project proved significantly crucial to ensure the remarkable participation of 17 teachers from all over Europe in the training activities. A wide range of theoretical and practical issues were covered, ranging from all the diverse approaches to learning religion to the different methods to use ICT in class. All the participants expressed their satisfaction towards the issues addressed and the methodologies used.

This peculiar kind of learning process has been designed for the purpose of being replicated in other Member States in the near future.  The learning process was an opportunity to present the new SORAPS project, which takes up its partners and objectives from the previous IERS project; the proposed action has been welcomed with great interest by the teachers involved, who expressed their willingness to be active parts of the follow-up project. In the end, we can confidently conclude that these relations, synergies and continuities between different Actions represent a fundamental way of guaranteeing the positive impact of project activities on both beneficiaries and targeted partners.

Kick-off meeting of the SORAPS Project

The Consortium members of the SORAPS (Studies of Religions Against Prejudices and Stereotypes) project have gathered from 23 to 27 November 2016 in the wonderful scenario offered by the University Ca’Foscari in Venice, where the meeting was held.

The implementing Consortium, which is currently led by the University Ca’Foscari of Venice, is the same involved in the former IERS (Intercultural Education through Religious Studies, https://iers.unive.it/) project, which already partnered with 4 prestigious European educational institutions: the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain; the Universität Augsburg in Germany, the Ecole pratique des hautes études (EPHE) in France and the Syddansk Universitet in Denmark, besides the leading NGO Oxfam Italia.

The SORAPS project has introduced a significant innovation compared with its precedessor: the establishment of an active partnership with 3 high schools from Italy, Spain and France, responsible for the piloting of the educational programs. These are going to be developed upon the outcomes of training activities for the teachers, created within the project and made up of several modules, namely:

  • Sense and Methods of Teaching History of Religions in Schools;
  • Introduction to the Main World Religious Traditions;
  • Religious Plurality in Contemporary Societies & Media;
  • Fundamentalisms and Human rights in the religious dimension;
  • Use of innovative ICT methodologies;
  • Managing of Multicultural classes;
  • Methods of Teachers Training.

Welcome to the WYRED project

WYRED is based on the idea that all young people of all ages have a right to participation and engagement and we have a strong focus on inclusion, diversity and empowerment, especially of the marginalised. To explore effectively what is relevant for young people, and understand their needs it is necessary for them to set the agenda and for them to own and drive the process. Only then can we hear their voice clearly, without filters.

Our Objectives

As society changes, there is a need to understand how it is changing, to explore what is going on. The WYRED approach places young people at the centre of this exploration. With the help of the partners, and using the WYRED platform, the young people who want to participate in the project will decide what themes need to be explored, what questions need to be asked, and how best to find the answers. They will then carry out this exploration in their own research projects, and decide how to present their results to society and to policy makers.

WYRED Manifesto

The WYRED project begins with the need to clarify objectives, and for this purpose we have set out a manifesto, our statement of intentions.
There is a Consortium Manifesto, that sets out the philosophy of the researchers and youth organisations that have set up the project and who will support the process, providing ideas and suggestions where necessary. This constitutes our perspective on the work.
However, given that our philosophy is that young people should own the whole WYRED process, an initial Children and Young People’s Manifesto was drafted with the help of young people in Belgium. This is just a starting point. It is however an open document, comments and suggested changes are welcome.

Tus ideas son mis cambios

Desde hace años hemos realizado el máster en elearning de la Universidad de Salamanca bajo el título “Máster en elearning . Tecnologías y métodos de formación en red” Parece increíble pero en apenas cinco años tenemos la sensación de que los cambios están imponiendo una readaptación del programa y los contenidos.

En la última reunión del grupo en Octubre, GRIAL, se planteó esta necesidad, la elaboración de una propuesta lo suficientemente detallada de modificación y adaptación de la programación académica y de los contenidos tratados en el Máster.

Aunque cuando comenzamos la primera edición del máster ya se preveía el impacto de la Web 2.0 y de algún modo se ha tenido en cuenta con ciertos cambios menores que hemos realizado, otros aspectos también han adquirido una fuerza mucho mayor que nos obligan a replantearnos las cosas. La computación en la nube, el desarrollo de los mundos virtuales y los laboratorios virtuales, la utilización de dispositivos móviles, el análisis y minería de datos, la web semántica, la Internet de las cosas, el incremento de la adopción del elearning en todos los ámbitos educativos, etc. Significativo, por su impacto en la metodología utilizada, es el aumento del ancho de banda que permite la utilización de materiales más complejos y sistemas de comunicación sincrónicos en entornos de aprendizaje radicalmente distintos que han venido a denominarse “entornos personales de aprendizaje”.
